Ulbricht created the dark web e-commerce platform Silk Road ( in 2011, but was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation ) in 2013 for charges including drug trafficking, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and even planning murders to protect his business. He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 2015.

Ulbricht recalled during his speech that in 2015, at the age of 31, he was sentenced to life in prison on May 29 of that year, and now he has been reborn. With tears in his eyes, he expressed:
