Gate Charity Unites Environmentalists with Viral Upcycle Artist JR for Ocean Protection Event in the Philippines

Gate Charity, a non-profit philanthropic organization founded by the pioneering cryptocurrency firm Gate Group, united local environmentalists and artist Pedro Angco Jr., known as JR, in Bacalon, Philippines, on July 10th to promote environmental protection and conservation.

The event is one of the “Protecting the Ocean” series organized by Gate Charity in the Philippines, aiming to increase environmental awareness, such as protecting marine ecos from plastic waste and other human trash. The event was sponsored by JR, a Filipino artist who collects, transforms, and repurposes ocean-borne garbage into works of art. His choice of art medium is meant to provoke thought about how humans affect the natural environment, encouraging society to rethink our approach to trash and recyclables.

The Gate Charity team worked with JR to organize a tour of his artwork exhibition and creative space. Local environmental activists experienced first-hand how JR plans and creates his art from recycled waste, gaining a better understanding of how he uses his creativity to encourage others to practice environmental stewardship. These experiences helped create a stronger network within the local environmentalist community, bridging different approaches to generating awareness of our natural environment and encouraging eco-consciousness.

While Gate Charity’s mission is global, the organization has also hosted several other charitable initiatives in the Philippines, including a recent youth coastal trash cleanup event in Bohol, launching the Ocean Protection NFT collection, and supporting indigenous communities such as the Aetas. Gate Charity plans to continue to expand its commitments to support other pressing issues in the Philippines and other regions worldwide.
