On September 10, Nick Timiraos, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal known as the "mouthpiece of the Fed," posted on social media that U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb temporarily blocked Trump from removing Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Cook. The court will issue an injunction directing Powell and the Board to allow Cook to continue serving as a board member during the litigation. However, the preliminary ruling by Jia Cobb did not address the key issue of whether the Trump administration's claim that Cook allegedly engaged in mortgage fraud before taking office constitutes sufficient grounds for removal. The case is expected to eventually be submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court for review.
