[U.S. Court Rules NFT Can Be Trademarked, Yuga Labs vs. Ryder Ripps Case to Be Reheard] The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals made a key ruling in the dispute between Yuga Labs and artist Ryder Ripps, clearly stating for the first time that NFTs fall under the definition of "goods" in the Lanham Act and can be legally protected as trademarks. The court rejected most of Ripps' defenses but overturned the previous $8 million award to Yuga and remanded the case to the district court for a rehearing to determine whether the "imitation BAYC" NFTs sold by Ripps caused consumer confusion.
