Scroll zkEVM L2 Network Interaction Guide: From Testnet Configuration to Gaming Experience
Scroll zkEVM Getting Started Guide
This article will introduce beginners to how to interact with L2 Dapps, taking Scroll zkEVM as an example. We will use an on-chain tic-tac-toe game deployed on the Scroll L2 network to demonstrate the entire process. These skills are equally applicable to other layer two networks.
Preparation Work
First, you need to install Metamask or a similar cryptocurrency wallet. If you have already installed Metamask, you can skip this step.
Step 1: Configure Testnet
Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a layer 2 network compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Any smart contract written for Ethereum can be deployed on Scroll zkEVM. The Scroll L2 alpha testnet is connected to the Ethereum Goerli testnet, confirming transactions by batch sending them to the Goerli L1 network.
To set up the Scroll L2 network, please visit the Scroll official website and follow the instructions to add the network to Metamask. You also need to add the Goerli test network.
Step 2: Obtain Test ETH
Next, you need to obtain some ETH on the Goerli test network. You can use the following faucets:
You can choose one of them or use multiple faucets in combination.
Step 3: Cross-Chain Transfer
After obtaining sufficient Goerli ETH, a portion of the ETH needs to be transferred cross-chain to the Scroll L2 testnet. Visit the cross-chain bridge interface provided by Scroll and follow the instructions to transfer ETH to the Scroll L2 address. This process will take some time to complete.
Step Four: Experience On-Chain Games
After the ETH transfer is completed, you can start experiencing the on-chain tic-tac-toe game. Visit the game page and connect your wallet, create a new game and invite friends to join, or use a second wallet as an opponent. Select the created game to start.
This game has another interesting feature: if you think you made a wrong move, you can reset the game at any time.
Step Five: Explore More Dapps
If you want to try more Dapps and games on Scroll, you can visit the Dapp directory page provided by Scroll, which lists many applications you can experience.
By following the steps above, you can successfully interact with Dapps on L2 networks like Scroll zkEVM. This not only helps you understand how layer 2 networks operate, but also allows you to experience the new possibilities brought by blockchain technology.
