Delving into the Mysterious FWB DAO: A New Way to Shape the Future World

Friends With Benefits (FWB) is a unique private club and a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). This community, which has over 2000 members, requires not only a strict identity verification process but also the purchase of a "ticket" costing nearly ten thousand dollars to join. Members enjoy the rights of the club and can also participate in operations and decision-making.

The main activity venue for FWB is Discord, which has over a hundred channels covering various fields such as learning, art, creativity, trading, and life. A large number of discussions and exchanges happen every day. At first glance, it may seem like just a large chat group, but in reality, it is much more than that.

The FWB community declaration emphasizes that they are a crossroads of technology and culture, composed of unique individuals pursuing a bright future. They believe that in the Web3 world, data and assets should flow and be controlled by their creators. The process of joining FWB is not simple. Applicants need to fill out a detailed form, which is reviewed by a member committee consisting of 15 people. The committee tends to favor applicants with unique backgrounds, especially artists, musicians, creative thinkers, and deep participants in the Web3 ecosystem. The current application rejection rate is around 60%.

After passing the review, a certain amount of community tokens must be held as a "ticket", valued at about ten thousand dollars. This makes FWB, to some extent, a crypto version of a wealthy club.

The membership composition of FWB is different from other communities. People who understand cryptocurrency are in the minority; more are creative workers, artists, and traditional entrepreneurs who have a strong interest in Web3.

The club's activities are divided into online and offline categories. There are five fixed online activities each week, covering themes such as creativity, Web3, and investment. Offline activities include large gatherings and small gatherings organized spontaneously by members. FWB has also introduced the concept of city subDAOs, lowering the entry threshold for members in certain cities.

Although FWB is not a productivity-oriented organization, it has still developed several products, primarily related to culture and social interaction. These products include weekly digests, "semi-finished" content, the Gatekeeper app, NFT display platforms, and more.

The organizational structure of FWB consists of seven different functional areas, including the editorial team, membership team, product team, city team, events team, partnerships team, and DAO team. These teams collectively support the operations and development of FWB.

In early September, FWB received a $10 million investment led by A16z. As a DAO, accepting this investment requires the consent of its members. The proposal was passed with a high percentage, marking a new chapter in FWB's development.
