The head of developer relations at Sui interprets Open Source Decentralization and developer support
Sui Developer Relations Head Talks Open Source, Decentralization and Developer Support
This article interviews Brian Hennessey-Hsieh, the head of developer relations at Sui, discussing his views on Open Source, Decentralization, and how to support developers in achieving success on Sui.
Brian has worked in the Open Source field for over 20 years, from GCC and Linux to cloud computing and other areas. He has always been passionate about Open Source, believing that open collaboration and transparency are key to software development. After joining Uber to establish the Open Source Project Office, Brian was invited by Coinbase to join the blockchain industry, which marked the beginning of his official web3 journey.
For web3, Brian has three different perspectives:
Work Perspective: Help establish more open collaboration and governance, achieving true Decentralization.
Technical Perspective: It is necessary to explain to people the characteristics of Sui technology and how it solves problems.
Application Perspective: Although not all applications are meaningful, the wide range of use cases validates the technology's value.
As the head of developer relations for a Layer 1 blockchain, Brian believes the key is to achieve Decentralization and engage with developers. This includes Open Source, open collaboration, and open governance. Principles and methods for community interaction need to be established to ensure fairness and inclusivity, while also promoting technological advancement.
To attract developers to use web3, Brian believes the key is to demonstrate how technology solves problems, rather than distinguishing between web2 and web3. For developers looking to transition to Sui development, he suggests:
Understand the basic theories, including distributed systems, cryptography, etc.
Decide whether to become an application developer or a core protocol developer.
Study the Open Source code and try to modify it.
Actively communicate with other developers and join the community.
To accelerate the learning of Sui developers, the team is developing various educational content and tools. Brian also encourages the community to develop tools such as SDKs and IDEs, and the Sui Foundation will provide support.
Currently, developers are exploring new features of Sui, such as dynamic fields and programmable transaction blocks, looking for innovative use cases. Brian especially hopes to see solutions that can fairly, transparently, and verifiably reward contributors to further promote Sui's Decentralization.
